Set It and Forget It Summer Temperature Control Settings

Summer shipping can be a laborious task while you attempt to navigate the extreme temperatures in various states across the country. Who knew working in the wine industry would mean you'd become a Meteorologist! Weather constantly changes adding an additional layer of complexity to shipping wine, something already challenging. Wineshipping offers wonderful options for safer summer shipping but monitoring the weather to change settings is a full time job in itself. If you would like the Wineshipping approved Temperature Control Settings for your summer shipping out of the west coast warehouses and not have to think about it until fall, then this is article is for you!

Different Temperature Control Options

Wineshipping offers many different ways to ensure your wine will be delivered safely to your customer during extreme temperatures. In addition to holding orders until a cooler time of year, Wineshipping provides you with the options to add ice packs to orders or add the Wineshipping Temperature Control Service to orders during order import. Adding ice packs can be valuable for orders with an expected transit time of 1-3 days, anything beyond that can cause damage to the wine due to the ice pack being melted. Adding the Wineshipping Temperature Control Service is a great solution, for applicable states, with an expected transit time of 3+ days. To add an extra layer of protection you can combine ice packs and WS Temperature Control service to the order. Once it arrives at the TC hub for that region, an ice pack is added to protect the package during its ground transit with the carrier.

Preferred Management

In the end, you have the power to manage your settings however you see fit. Take the Wineshipping approved suggestions and tweak it to be more or less conservative based on your business practices. We care about your customers and want to see a safe and successful delivery of your product to them. These suggestions optimize the settings available to you for the best possible outcome for a safe and successful delivery. We have taken the average temperatures and weather patterns across the country to provide the best possible solution for summer shipping. Lets begin!

Temperature Control Settings

The following settings can be located when you click on the Temperature Control Settings button on the top left of the Temperature Control page in ACP. These settings are imperative for the best "Set It and Forget It" temperature control settings.

Temperature Ranges enabled: 40 degrees as the lowest temp and 85 degrees as the highest (please customize based on your business comfort level, these numbers are defaults)

Ice Pack Packaging: (optional) If your business has a sustainable or environmentally friendly initiative then our upgraded ice pack packaging is a great option to showcase those initiatives through the shipping process.

Ice Pack Rules: Shipping packages with ice via group with a transit time of 4+ days does not protect the package nor does requesting an ice pack for an order that contains incompatible items with our packaging. This setting helps bring attention to these orders to prevent issues.

Wineshipping recommends enabling this setting to Send Order to Action Center, allowing you the opportunity to fix these orders to your liking.

Custom Regions enabled: Manage states that contain varying temperatures (CA, NV, AZ, NY) by enabling the custom regions to be more granular about temperature shipping. Enable all Custom Regions to work in conjunction with Temperature Ranges

State Settings

You have now reached the hardest part but you are almost done! Don't forget to set calendar reminders to enable and disable the settings.

Enable: May 1st

Disable: October 15th (subject to change due to late summer heat spikes)

Why should I set my Temperature Control settings like this?

You may be reading this article wondering why you should set your settings this aggressively. Well the short answer of it is, safety. Using these aggressive settings will allow you to have the best possible outcome for your packages during the hottest months of the year. Of course weather is a fickle being, and temperatures can range drastically throughout the year so your comfort level may change as you hear of heat waves impacting the nation. These settings are designed to put orders on a weather hold if the State or Region exceeds your comfort level set in the Temperature Ranges. The ice packs and TC are added to the states that are consistently the hottest throughout the summer, southern states. Whereas, the northern states simply add the TC service to the orders. Any state that doesn't allow for the TC service has added ice packs to help protect the shipment during warmer days. Wineshipping does encourage expedited shipping to the states further away from CA that do not allow TC service shipping, i.e. North Dakota.

But what about the cost?

Another topic you may be wondering about is the cost of shipping with these aggressive Temperature Control settings. Keep in mind customer satisfaction and quality wine being delivered is a top priority for you and Wineshipping. These Wineshipping approved suggestions maximizes the settings offered to you while promoting your brands quality throughout the year. We encourage you to pull your rate card and do a quick cost analysis to see if these options are feasible for your business. If you come to the conclusion that you cannot make such drastic settings then reach out to us for a rate analysis. We want you to be successful at shipping your wine throughout the year! In the end, any additional cost is there to provide peace of mind and ensure the safety of your wine allowing you to continue shipping. Who wouldn't want a case (or two... or more) of Rose, Sauvignon Blanc, or Chardonnay shipped to them to enjoy during the summer pool side.
